Group forms to protest against Toledo Public Schools levy
A group calling itself Toledoans for Public Trust Monday morning announced its plans to launch a campaign against the 0.75 percent Toledo Public Schools income tax.
Members gathered outside the Lucas County Early Voting Center at 1302 Washington St. to announce their message.
"It's the wrong tax at the wrong time in Toledo," said Steve Flagg, who is helping to organize the opposition to the May 4 levy.
The campaign, he said, will highlight ways TPS can find savings both in the short and longterm.
TPS is facing a budget deficit of $30 million for next fiscal year. Last week, the Toledo Board of Education decided on two lists of cuts -- one if the levy fails and one if it passes.
