Custer school to get more books

MONROE -- Custer Elementary School's Literacy Library will get books worth $4,185.

The Monroe Board of Education approved the expenditure for several hundred high-quality texts from Scholastic Book Services for use in the Literacy Library, which is on large rolling carts that move around the building. This latest expenditure brings to $10,000 the amount spent on books this year for young readers at Custer.

In other school-district news, 22 students at Manor Elementary were recognized at the Science Fair Open House for their work in four categories: life science, physical science, earth science, and models. They are:

● Life Science 1st place -- Kindergarten, Chloe Lohmeyer; 1st and 2nd grade, Reganne Benett; 3rd and 4th grade, Mallory Everly and Daniel Snow, and 5th and 6th grade, Maddy Miller.

● Life Science 2nd place --1st and 2nd grade, Erika Bressler; 3rd and 4th grade, Logan Skidmore.

● Life Science Honorable Mention -- Ethan Harbaugh.

● Physical Science 1st place --Kindergarten, Blake Stanish; 1st and 2nd grade, Zachary Lindsay; 3rd and 4th grade, Niklas Walters and Lauren Swallow; 5th and 6th grade, Calie Peterson.

● Physical Science 2nd place -- 1st and 2nd grade, Madison Faryniarz, and 3rd and 4th grade, Nicholas Fayniarz.

● Physical Science Honorable Mention -- Lukas Loh- meyer and Kaylee Faulk.

● Earth Science 1st place -- 1st and 2nd grade, Makenna Menzies, 3rd and 4th grade, Luke Watters.

● Earth Science 2nd place -- 1st and 2nd grade, Joey Kidd.

● Models -- Ashley Kidd and Sophia Pancon.
