Emily Inverso, a graduating senior from Kent State University with a major in news journalism and minor in public relations, has been named this year’s recipient of the Marge McNab Block Award.

The award — $1,000 from The Blade — is presented yearly to Kent’s graduating senior woman in news with the highest grade-point average.

Miss Inverso interned with Details magazine in New York and, in 2012, was chosen as one of 33 students from across the country for a summer internship with the American Society of Magazine Editors. There, she worked with Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine in Washington, the oldest personal finance magazine in the nation.

At Kent State University, Miss Inverso has worked her way through reporter or social media positions at Black Squirrel Radio, Artemis magazine, Fusion magazine, The Burr magazine, A magazine, and the Daily Kent Stater.

During her senior year, Miss Inverso was editor in chief for the Daily Kent Stater and editor in chief of A magazine, the university’s first fashion magazine that she co-founded the previous year.

After graduation, Miss Inverso plans to intern as part of the Dow Jones News Fund program, working with digital media for the Indianapolis Star newspaper.

The Marge McNab Block Award is named for the late Mrs. Block, a Kent State graduate who was a reporter and director of features and women’s news at The Blade. Her husband was Paul Block, Jr., co-publisher of The Blade from 1942 until his death in 1987.
