The board of education recognized the high school wrestling team and the sixth-grade winners of the Monroe County Quiz Bowl at its meeting last week.
Interim Superintendent Jon White praised the wrestlers for their team’s 3.64 grade point average and said they made Bedford proud by winning the Southeastern Conference Championship, taking the district title, and advancing to the state quarterfinals.
Wrestling coach Kevin Vogel told board members his grapplers continued to work hard in the off-season, practicing two or three times a week.
Kay McPhillips, a Quiz Bowl coach, said her team was “the smartest bunch of kids” she has ever coached in Quiz Bowl. Jodi Reitz, the other Quiz Bowl coach, was at a track meet in Adrian and could not attend the school board meeting.
