A scheduled state power auction seeking suppliers of electricity with rates lower than that of FirstEnergy Corp. is officially dead for this year.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio decided this week to reject requests by a Maryland power company and the Ohio Consumers' Counsel to restructure the auction to encourage more bidders. No bidders had registered for the auction planned for this week.
