Columbia Gas of Ohio is seeking permission from state regulators to charge 94 cents per 100 cubic feet for natural gas in January.
If approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, it would be the lowest January rate in five years and 25 cents less than the December rate, Columbia officials said.
Residential customers would pay an average of $199.84 for gas next month. The utility s rate is $1.19 this month and was $1.03 in January 2008.
