The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has set a public hearing for 6 p.m. Monday at Government Center on a rate plan proposed by Toledo Edison and parent FirstEnergy Corp.
The hearing is one of eight scheduled around the state to give FirstEnergy customers a chance to comment on the electric utility's proposal for determining rates from June 1, 2011, to May 31, 2014.
The plan, which has the support of the PUCO staff, would use a competitive auction to secure power and set rates for customers who do not choose alternative suppliers.
Opposition to the proposal is led by homeowners who heat with electricity and say it would eliminate rate advantages they now receive.
