Columbia Gas rates to increase 4 cents

BLADE STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES

Columbia Gas of Ohio said Thursday that its customer rate for June will be 39.5 cents per 100 cubic feet of natural gas, an increase of about 4 cents from May but the lowest rate for natural gas in June since 1996, when the price was 36 cents per 100 cubic feet, according to the utility.

The June rate is based on the latest natural-gas commodity closing price of 24.2 cents on the New York Mercantile Exchange, plus 15.3 cents for a state-regulated service charge.

The utility estimated the average bill in June will be $33.65. A year ago, it was $39.35.
