The American Culinary Federation-Maumee Valley Chefs Association, in conjunction with the Northwest Ohio Restaurant Association, presented scholarships to outstanding young culinarians at the 31st Annual Scholarship and Award Dinner Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Receiving the George Mancy Memorial Scholarship of $5,000 was Celeste Scarlett, who attends the Culinary Institute of America. The ACF MVCA/NWORA Scholarship winners of $4,000 each are John A. Scott, attending Monroe County Community College, and Christine Hopkins, attending Owens Community College.
The Gordon Food Service Scholarship of $1,500 went to Andryelyn Fisher for the Toledo Restaurant Training Center. The US Foodservice Scholarship of $1,500 went to Joseph L. Jackson, who attends Owens Community College. The Malcolm Meats Scholarship of $1,500 was awarded to Mitchel R. Moore for the Toledo Restaurant Training Center.
The Chefs Association also honors members, associate members, and friends of the association. The Professionalism Award went to Chef Tom Elliot.
Aspiring Culinarian of the Year Award went to Haven Cook. (Ms. Cook, a pastry chef, and pastry chef Melissa Kolmar prepared the Dessert Trio for the scholarship dinner.)
This year s Friend of the ACF Maumee Valley Chefs Association is Chef Johnny s Products.
The President s Award and special recognition was awarded to Chef Marcel Hesseling of Toledo Yacht Club, featuring Chef Marcel Catering.
The Chef of the Year award named by past chefs of the year was given to Chef Marshall Goldstein of Trilogy Health Care Services. Chef Goldstein was responsible for the welcome reception with hors d oeuvres at the scholarship dinner.
