Gardeners will have a sumptuous and beautiful smorgasbord of ideas, concepts, and designs to choose from at this weekend's 16th Annual Toledo Day Nursery In Another Garden tour in Ottawa Hills.

The Saturday event will feature solutions to a variety of challenges, including a garden that slopes into a meadow that often floods, a design that embraces the perimeter of a property, and one that utilizes the works of local artists in the landscape.

And then there are Wayne and Deb Court's roses at their 2425 Brookview Drive home.

"I have a lot of roses, like over 160. I stopped counting after awhile," Ms. Court said.

She and her husband, a local physician, team up on the yard each year.

"It's a lot of work, but fun, too," she said. "He's really the gardener with the green thumb. I'm more day-to-day maintenance and maybe design."

Also on the tour are the homes of:

●Naran Burchinow and Eileen Conlon, 3532 Ridgewood Rd. Their backyard provides a challenge because it slopes into a meadow that floods, which gives them an opportunity to grow plants that like a lot of water.

●Carrie and Mike Ferguson, 2450 Underhill Rd. Their property features climbing hydrangeas, St. John's wort that was transplanted from the Chesapeake Bay, and a fish pond with two fountains.

●Rex and Dorothy Figy, 2521 Challendon Court. Their landscape includes gardens all over the property that incorporate bird baths and feeders collected from family trips to Maine, Seattle, and Mexico, and trellises that dot the landscape.

●Nick and Krista Havill, 55 Canterbury Court. Their landscape highlights the work of Ms. Havill, a master gardener, who created a pond in the backyard that features three small waterfalls that empty into a kidney-shaped pond and a property that abounds with perennials.

●Leah and Doug Hileman, 4458 Bonnie Brook Rd., live on the site of the historic Ottawa Hills Pheasant hunting Ground. Their property includes a front rose garden with 30 award-winning English roses and a backyard that reflects a strong interest in hummingbirds and butterflies.

●Fred and Cindy Redmann, 3357 Edgevale Rd. Mr. Redmann has been in the landscaping business for 35 years and their property features much of the knowledge he has gleaned from his years in the business.

●Carol and Dan Hylant, 4517 Brittany Rd., installed perimeter gardens under the shade of giant trees and use wall trellises with clematis to create a variety of different colors.

●Sunset House and the Woodlands, 4020 Indian Rd., features a path through a woods where residents walk and rest on benches. Environmentalists have added plants that were salvaged from the building site where an apartment building was built behind the Sunset House.

Bus service and tickets will be available at St. Ursula Academy, 4025 Indian Rd., beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m. Saturday. They are $20 the day of the tour and $15 if purchased before the tour at the following locations:
