Senior Women square off at Stone Oak tomorrow

The strongest field in the history of the Ohio Senior Women's Invitational golf championship will compete in the annual state tournament tomorrow and Thursday at Stone Oak Country Club.

The 36-hole medal play event will feature a field of 84 players, including 34 with single-digit handicaps.

Fairborn's Diana Schwab, the defending champion and three-time winner, and former champs Mary Ann Bierman, Pauline Whitacre, Joan Comisar, Shirley Edler and Janet Beardsley are expected to compete.

Pat Snyder of Heather Downs CC heads a local contingent that includes Jan Taylor and Joyce Walters of Highland Meadows, Luann Alleman of Stone Oak, and Sue Byrne and Marianne Reece of Heather Downs.

The tournament begins both days at 8:30 a.m.

Stone Oak becomes the fourth local club to host the event, joining Belmont CC, where the tournament debuted in 1973, Inverness Club and Highland Meadows.
