A field of 55 golfers will tee off Monday at the Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course in the first step to qualify for the 2008 U.S. Open.
Under the direction of the Toledo District Golf Association, tee times begin at 9 a.m. and continue through noon for the local qualifier.
The top four finishers will qualify for the sectional tournament on June 2 in Columbus and a chance to advance to the Open at Torrey Pines Country Club in San Diego from June 12-15.
Professionals Aaron Waltz of the Sylvania Country Club and Ryan Leitner from the Tecumseh Country Club will be in the field.
Top collegians Nathan Wine of the University of Toledo and Benjamin Chase Yacko of Wheaton College are entered.
Three of the 2007 medalists return: UT graduate Tyler Riley of Findlay, Matt Stauch of Dublin, Ohio, and Erik Hoops from Perrysburg.
