Jamie Farr celebrates his 76th birthday today and, while Toledoans hope their favorite son lives to be 100, he has been pondering his mortality.
He recently asked wife Joy if he should be buried in Toledo. She and close friend Andy Fenady, another long-ago Toledoan who also attended Woodward High before becoming a movie executive, suggested Farr instead visit Hollywood Forever, a cemetery adjacent to Paramount Studios.
"Cecil B. DeMille is there, John Huston, Rudolph Valentino, Tyrone Power, on and on, great stars everywhere," Jamie said. "I found a plot in the middle of all that, by a beautiful lake, and asked the sales rep how much. It was $100,000.
"I walked across a little lane and found a nice spot next to a big tree and asked about that one. It was $35,000. Wrong side of the street, I guess.
"But I took it. I'm a little crazy, but not THAT crazy."
Happy birthday, Jamie!
