Tiger Woods, estranged wife finalize their divorce accord

ORLANDO, Fla. - Tiger Woods' divorce settlement has been finalized.

Lawyers for Elin Nordegren Woods filed the petition Monday in Panama City, Fla., to dissolve the marriage - 270 days after the sport utility vehicle wreck outside their home that left the golfer needing medical attention and raised the curtain on a large-ensemble sex scandal.

The divorce was official Monday after the golfer, 34, waived the 20-day waiting period stipulated by Florida law.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," Woods and Ms. Nordegren said in a joint statement.

Terms of the divorce were not disclosed, except that they will share parenting of their two children. Daughter Sam Alexis turned 3 during June's U.S. Open; son Charlie Axel is 18 months.

The couple married Oct. 5, 2004, in a sunset ceremony at the Sandy Lane Golf Resort in Barbados.

The scandal began to unfold Nov. 27, when Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree in an apparent hasty exit from his drive. The accident occurred soon after the National Enquirer reported the golfer was having an affair with an events planner from New York City, who joined him at the Australian Masters two weeks earlier.

Before the tabloid headlines ended, nearly two dozen women either were named in various reports of sexual liaisons with Woods or stepped forward.

Ms. Nordegren reportedly moved out of their home within a week of the accident. He went into seclusion, then spent seven weeks in counseling for sex addiction.
