Farr Classic to present $300,000 to local charities
The Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, presented by Kroger, will present $300,000 to its 2010 charity beneficiaries Friday at its annual winter luncheon at Owens Corning world headquarters in downtown Toledo. It will bring the LPGA Tour event's contribution to local children's charities to $6.8 million since its inception in 1984.
Luncheon-goers will be able to see the 2010 U.S. Women's Open trophy won by
Paula Creamer, a former Farr champion.
Checks will be presented to the Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio ($50,000), Sunshine, Inc. ($35,000), Toledo Community Recreation Program ($30,000), Camp Courageous ($25,000), Heartbeat of Toledo ($25,000), Make-A-Wish Foundation ($25,000), Mary Immaculate School ($25,000), Toledo Symphony ($25,000), Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth ($15,000), and Gliding Stars of Toledo ($5,000).
In addition, a $30,000 donation will be made to the Farr Classic's scholarship fund through the Toledo Community Foundation.
Earlier, the tournament donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross and to the Lake Kids Tornado Relief Fund.
The Farr Classic will not be staged in 2011 as Inverness Club hosts the U.S. Senior Open July 25-31. However, it will be announced Friday that eight area children's charities will share in 25 percent of the net proceeds from the
Senior Open. The Farr Classic is scheduled to return in 2012 in the first year of a new three-year contract with the LPGA Tour.
