Erie Mason girls top Blissfied for district title

PETERSBURG, Mich. - Kelley Upchurch scored 17 points last night as Erie Mason defeated Blissfield 54-34 to win the Michgian Class C district girls basketball championship.

It was the second district championship in school history - the last one in 1992.

Jen Hurst added 13 points for the Eagles (22-1). Ashley Heck had 8 points and 9 rebounds. Missy Hurst grabbed 8 rebounds

Blissfield (11-12) was led by Kari Cory's 10 points.

Erie Mason jumped out to a 27-17 halftime lead.

The Eagles' pressure defense caused Blissfield to commit 48 turnovers.

Erie Mason, coached by Bryan Parran, advances to the regional tournament to play Detroit Communication Media Arts at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Summerfield High School.
