Girls basketball roundup: Central defeats Hartley

MASON, Ohio - Nicole Brown scored 18 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, as Central Catholic defeated Columbus Bishop Hartley 58-40 last night in the first round of the Mason holiday tournament.

Kelly Helvey added 14 points and Brigid Wernert 12 for Central (7-0).

Central jumped to a 19-6 lead against Hartley (4-1), which had three players score 11 points each.

The Irish play Cleveland East Tech in today's semifinals.



Southview led 27-10 at the half, but had to withstand a 33-point fourth quarter from the Rebels.

Bowsher got within 52-50.

Kelly Heil led Southview with 31 points and Stephanie Kneisley added 11.

Jazlyn Davis paced Bowsher with 29, including 16 in the fourth quarter.


GENOA - Crystal Dixon poured in 33 points for Waite in the opening round of the River East Classic.

Alison Zemanski led Rossford with 24 points and Noelle Owen added 12.

Waite prevailed with a 16-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.


GENOA - Kate Achter scored 18 points as Clay won in the River East Classic.

Courtney Nissen led Genoa with 10 points.
