The Bowling Green hockey team qualified for the state tournament for the ninth straight season with a 7-0 win over Northview at Tam O'Shanter last night.
The line of seniors Nick Bauman and Damon Bechstein and sophomore Andy Hess combined for five goals, with Bauman and Hess netting two apiece. Bechstein finished with five assists.
“They use our system well and they forecheck really well,” said Bobcat coach Dan DeWitt about the line. “They work well together.”
Bauman and Hess each scored a goal in the opening period, and Bechstein, Bauman and Casey Horner netted second-period goals as Bowling Green (29-1) built a big early advantage.
“I thought we played really well - getting on top of them was huge,” DeWitt said.
Adam Jordan and Hess scored in the third period for BG.
The Bobcats outshot Northview (22-10) 41-14, with BG's Dan Marcson stopping all 14 shots while the Wildcats' Alex Prior made 34 saves.
“We were overwhelmed tonight,” said Northview coach Jim Cooper. “Bowling Green's poise and experience paid off.”
The Bobcats will play Lakewood St. Edward in the state semifinals at Nationwide Arena in Columbus Saturday at 2 p.m.
