Whitmer held a 10-point lead with 5:10 remaining in the fourth quarter of a Division I sectional basketball game at the Sullivan Center last night, but Southview rallied for a 55-54 victory.
Tim Hausfeld converted a one-and-one free throw situation with 7.2 seconds left for the final margin. Then Shaun Joplin blocked a shot attempt by Whitmer's Ryne Smith to preserve the victory.
Hausfeld led the Cougars (13-8) with 14 points and Josh Craig added 10.
David Sweeney and Smith scored 13 apiece for the Panthers (12-9). Kevin Koger added 11 and Jeremy Jones had 10.
Whitmer hit seven 3-pointers but connected on just 9-of-21 free throws. Southview hit 8-of-10.
ST. FRANCIS 66, ROGERS 48
The Knights (12-7) rolled at Central as Kevin Henry scored 18, Nick Meinert 15 and Matt Meinert 12.
St. Francis hit 17-of-27 free throws to Rogers' 1-of-7.
Lee Tabb led the Rams with 15 and Joe Landry had 10.
FINDLAY - The last time these teams met on Feb. 16, the Jackets won 80-37.
At Liberty-Benton, Perrysburg (16-5) squeaked by as Andrew Wood scored 23 and Glenn Empie added 14. Tig Dybala and Coty DiSalle scored 13 apiece for Maumee (1-20).
LIMA SENIOR 46,
ANTHONY WAYNE 43
FINDLAY - Anton Hutchins scored 19 points and Danyel Walton added 10 for Lima Senior (7-14) at Liberty-Benton.
Kyle Jazwiecki led Anthony Wayne (12-9) with 15 points and Andrew Riley had 10.
The seesaw battle saw Anthony Wayne prevail 13-8 in the first quarter and 18-8 in the third, but Lima Senior took the second 16-3 and the fourth 14-9.
ST. JOHN'S 73, SPRINGFIELD 37
The Titans (14-7) placed 12 in the scoring column at Waite.
Sean Patterson and Joe Jakubowski each scored 13 points to lead St. John's Jesuit and Alvin Thomas added 11.
Zach Culbertson and Victor Hunt had nine points apiece for the Blue Devils (4-17).
START 73, BOWSHER 46
Start (13-6) placed four in double figures at Waite as Sean Woods scored 13, Ottarreus Waller 12, Robert Lonas 11 and Darius Washington 10.
It was coach Gil Guerrero's 100th victory.
Matt Kaighan led Bowsher with 13 points.
The Spartans hit 10 3-pointers - six in a 21-8 second quarter for a 37-21 halftime lead.
NAPOLEON 60, ROSSFORD 45
Napoleon outscored Rossford 33-16 in the middle quarters at Anthony Wayne.
Lee Hunter led the Wildcats (9-12) with 19 points and Ryan Fleck added 17. Rossford (11-10) got 17 from Logan Nichols and 10 from Justin Wagner.
Napoleon hit 19-of-28 free throws to Rossford's 12-of-18.
WAUSEON 48, BRYAN 37
Chris Villalovos scored 17, Elliott Mealer 14 and Kevin Elson 10 for Wauseon (15-6) at Anthony Wayne. Andy Park paced Bryan (5-16) with nine points.
SANDUSKY - Brady Decker led Tiffin Columbian with 33 points. Jeff DeBlase had 18 points for Bellevue.
