Sims scores 19 points in Toledo Christian victory

BOWLING GREEN - Arcadia hung around for one quarter, but Toledo Christian slowly pulled away in a 57-34 win last night in this Division IV sectional final.

With the game tied at 13 after the first quarter, Toledo Christian led by seven at the half and by 12 after three periods.

Grant Sims scored 19 points for the Eagles (20-1), while Kyle Whitlow chipped in with 16.

Landon Fleegle led Arcadia (11-11) with 12 points. C.J. Holman had 10 points.

VAN BUREN 77,

CARDINAL STRITCH 59

BOWLING GREEN - The Black Knights turned up the heat in the second quarter, outscoring Cardinal Stritch 22-7 in the decisive period.

The thermostat didn't hit its peak until the final stanza, however, when the two teams scored 31 points each.

Matt Phillips scored 22 points for Van Buren (17-4). Ray Wolfe finished with 16 points, and Logan Grant had 15.

Kevin Sheehy tallied 20 points for Cardinal Stritch (16-6). Eric Rutkowski added 13 points and Patrick Hohenberger chipped in with 11.

PETTISVILLE 68,

NORTH CENTRAL 43

BRYAN - Pettisville placed four in double figures as Michael Deffely had 17, Logan Frey 16, Josh Bruner 12 and Alex Frey 11.

Derick Wyrick led North Central with 20.

STRYKER 56, EDON 39

BRYAN - Stryker rolled as Jordan Jaggers hit 11 of 14 free throws on the way to 25 points, and Zach Erb added 17 points.

Kyle Ankney and Adam Wakefield scored 11 points each and Brandt Thiel added 10.

AYERSVILLE 30, HOLGATE 28

OTTAWA - Demetrius Trapps scored 10 points, including the winning basket at the buzzer, as Ayersville beat Holgate at its own low-scoring game at Ottawa-Glandorf.

Cory Yaklin led Holgate with 16 points.

PATRICK HENRY 48,

OTTAWA - Kevin Tietje scored 21 points, Kyle Tietje added 14 and Matt Rettig scored on a tip-in at the buzzer as the Patriots squeaked by.

Kevan Westenbarger had 21 points for McComb and Mason Roth added 10.

NEW RIEGEL 58, VANLUE 53

TIFFIN - Dustin Kinn scored 21 points and Tyler Scherger added 14, including four 3-pointers, to pace New Riegel at Columbian. The Blue Jackets hit 15 of 25 free throws to Vanlue's 6 of 8. Josh Kloepfer led Vanlue with 20 and Nick Lee had 19.

CAREY 60, CALVERT 45

TIFFIN - Michael Dennis led Carey (13-8) with 23 points, Derrick Cole added 17 and Brock Tong had 14 at Columbian.

Patrick Woodman scored 16 for Tiffin Calvert and Bill Mullen added 13.

KALIDA 53,

PANDORA-GILBOA 52

BLUFFTON - Jordan Basinger scored 21 points to pace Kalida (16-5). Jordan Lehman and Josh Lee each had 15 for Pandora-Golboa.

FORT JENNINGS 45,

ARLINGTON 36

BLUFFTON - Aaron Chandler led Fort Jennings (16-5) with 14 points and Jacob Drerup had 14 for Arlington (17-4).

ST. PAUL 58, DANBURY 52

PORT CLINTON - Joe Graziani scored 11 and Cory Schaffer added 10 for St. Paul (16-6).

Nick Wiedenhoft led Danbury (10-12) with 18, Michael Hamann added 13 and Travis Waggoner 10.

VAN WERT - Aaron Hockenberry led Wayne Trace with 20 points and Brad Turnwald had 20 for Ottoville.
