Waite's Fuller wins district; Findlay's Alexander edges Southview's Isley

MARION, Ohio Scott Fuller from Waite and Matt Alexander of Findlay, both seniors, won titles in the Division I district wrestling tournament yesterday at Marion Harding.

Fuller posted a 5-1 victory over Jerome Robinson of Cleveland St. Ignatius to win the title at 119 pounds, while Alexander took the 189-pound title with a 6-5 decision over Southview s Greg Isley.

Fuller, Alexander, and Isley are three of the 10 local wrestlers who advanced to the state tournament next week.

Springfield s Garrett Manley took third at 103, while Alex Latham of Southview finished third at 130 thanks to a 1-0 decision over Marion Harding s Larry Countryman in the consolation final.

Waite s Alex Herrick placed third at 140 following a pin of Mansfield Madison s Justin Yetzer in the consolation final, while Rudy Hendon took fourth at 145.

Two area wrestlers advanced at 160 when Clay s Justin Wharton faced Maks Babuder of St. Francis in the consolation final. Wharton took third place with a 7-5 decision.

And at 285, Max Gladstone finished third with a forfeit victory over James Meder of Parma Valley Forge in the consolation final.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to next week s state tournament, to be held at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Lakewood St. Edward, the 11-time defending state champion, won the team title with 233.5 points, more than double the 112 points of second-place Cleveland St. Ignatius. Southview had the best local team finish, tying for fifth with Parma Normandy with 56 points.
