Perrysburg's Metzger takes district; Arrows' Bechtel-Eccleston win doubles

PORT CLINTON - Perrysburg senior Julia Metzger easily defended her Division I district singles championship yesterday with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Southview senior Sarah Haidar at Port Clinton High School.

In doubles, seniors Morgan Bechtel and Maddy Eccleston of St. Ursula defeated Central Catholic sophomore Morgan Delp and freshman Sydney Delp 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

Both singles finalists and the two doubles teams advance to the state tournament in Columbus.

In Division II, Ottawa Hills freshman Drew Fillis defeated Bryan junior Meredith McDonagh 6-4, 6-0 to win the district singles crown.

Ontario junior Brooke Trine won 6-1, 6-1 over Shelby junior Jordyn Parrigan in the consolation match.

Lexington's doubles team of Courtney Earnest and Taylor Hines won 6-1, 6-2 over Port Clinton's Chelsea Beck and Aubrey Gillman in the final.

Placing third were Lexington juniors Shellie Webster and Shaleigh McClintock, who defeated Port Clinton's Jordan VanWinkle and Samantha Griffin 6-0, 6-0.

The top four in singles and doubles advance to state.
