Jones tops 1,000 points in Irish win

Brianna Jones scored her 1,000th career point in leading Central Catholic to a 38-36 City League win over Notre Dame last night.

The Fighting Irish used a 14-5 second quarter to build a lead, then watched the Eagles close the gap with a 14-6 run in the final period. But Jasmine Blanton's 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out to keep Central (7-4) unbeaten in the league at 6-0.

Jones finished with a game-high 21 points and now has 1,009 for her career.

Blanton had 11 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, to lead Notre Dame (6-4, 3-3).

CLAY 65, SCOTT 48

The Eagles jumped to a 17-9 lead after one quarter with pressure defense and wound up with four players in double figures.

Meghan Scharer led Clay (7-4, 4-2 CL) with 15 points, Lauren Taylor had 12, Nicole Steinmetz 11 and Jessica Achter 10. Visiting Scott (9-3, 4-2) got 11 points from Iesha Purnell.

ST. URSULA 61,

WOODWARD 18

St. Ursula had 12 players in the scoring column and used a 25-point third-quarter outburst to defeat visiting Woodward.

Morgan Bechtel with 14 points and Isabel Lishewski with eight led St. Ursula (2-8, 2-4 CL). LaShanita Lane had 10 for the Polar Bears.

BOWSHER 61, LIBBEY 49

At Bowsher, the Rebels (4-8, 2-4 CL) got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Taylor Brown and 13 points and 15 rebounds from Ciara Hudson. Mackeeta Allen paced Libbey (2-8, 1-4) with 19 points.

WAITE 71, ROGERS 35

The Indians rolled to a 17-8 lead after one quarter and used a 24-11 finish to turn the contest into a runaway.

Amanda Gregory finished with a game-high 24 points to lead Waite (7-3, 5-1 CL). Natasha Howard scored all 12 of her points in the second half, while Mariah Haynes had seven of her 12 points in the opening period.

Jasmine Whitely finished with 10 points for the Rams (6-5, 2-4).

START 61, WHITMER 16

The Spartans (8-2, 6-0 CL) took the home court win as Maleeka Kynard totaled 19 points and Azia Bishop added 12.

Laura Campbell's eight points paced the Panthers (3-8, 1-5).

DANBURY 34,

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 22

LAKESIDE - Danbury remained undefeated at 4-0 in the TAAC with a 34-22 victory over visiting Toledo Christian (5-6, 2-3). Christine Longer scored 13 points and had 9 rebounds to lead Danbury (8-2).

The Lakers were able to maintain their halftime lead despite being outscored 5-1 in the third quarter.

Kara Segler led Toledo Christian with 10.

STRITCH 45, EMMANUEL 29

Emmanuel Christian held an 11-10 lead over visiting Cardinal Stritch after one quarter, but the Cardinals outscored the Warriors the rest of the way.

Nicole Lamb led Stritch (5-6, 4-2 TAAC) with 16 points. Liz Speweik added 11. Emily Loomis scored 10 for Emmanuel Christian (1-10, 0-6).

NORTHWOOD 44,

MAUMEE VALLEY 22

The Rangers forced Maumee Valley to commit 22 turnovers to pick up the road victory.

Rema Abdelhoq had 12 points, including seven in the second quarter to spark a 13-4 run, and Sammie Brisbin added 10 for Northwood (4-5, 2-3). Nollie Brown finished with 13 points for the Hawks (2-7, 0-3).

FINDLAY 51,

FREMONT ROSS 31

FREMONT - Danielle Sallisbury and Dannyel Butte each scored 14 points for the Trojans (5-5).

Brianna Crowe totaled 14 and Victoria Logan 13 for Ross (1-9).

LIBERTY-BENTON 70,

CORY-RAWSON 27

RAWSON - Amanda Hyde scored 26 points and unbeaten Liberty-Benton poured in seven 3-pointers.

WAUSEON 69, SWANTON 53

WAUSEON - Tyler Hinkle finished with a double-double - 23 points, 14 rebounds - to pace the Indians.

Wauseon (6-2, 3-1 NWOAL), which never trailed and led 42-23 at the half, also got 14 points from Colt Humbert, 12 from Josh Dominique and 10 from Michael Thompson.

Chad Lewis scored 19 points and Ben Gustafson had 12 for Swanton (2-7, 1-3).

ARCHBOLD 51,

MONTPELIER 28

MONTPELIER - The Blue Streaks broke out to a 17-3 lead after one quarter and cruised to the NWOAL victory.

Christian Goering had 12 points - all on 3-pointers - and David Rupp added 11 for Archbold (5-6, 2-2), which got points from 10 players.

Jake Buchanan and Ryan Heller each had eight to lead the Locomotives (1-6, 1-2).

BRYAN 57,

LIBERTY CENTER 29

LIBERTY CENTER - The Golden Bears used a 13-5 first-quarter burst to waltz to the road win.

Matt Jones finished with 14 points and Shawn Osborn had 10 for Bryan (3-6, 2-1 NWOAL), which had nine players score points.

Patrick Brown had 12 points to lead the Tigers (0-7, 0-4).

PETTISVILLE 70, FAYETTE 44

PETTISVILLE - Michael Deffely scored 22 to pace the Blackbirds.

BEREAN BAPTIST 53,

APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN 47

Ryan Helinski scored 22 points to pace the visitors from Adrian. Jourdan DeAniello led Apostolic Christian with 21.
