Notre Dame, St. Francis take district championships
BOWLING GREEN - Notre Dame and
St. Francis de Sales claimed team titles in the Division I district swimming and diving meet yesterday at Bowling Green State University's Cooper Pool.
The Eagles got titles from sisters Ellen and Rachael Dzierzak and finished with 427 points. Fremont Ross was second with 285.
Ellen Dzierzak, a senior, won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.18, while Rachael Dzierzak, a sophomore, took first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.05.
Fremont Ross was led by Sammi Miller, who won the 50 free (24.69) and Taylor Waggoner, who took first in the 100 butterfly (58.75).
Bowling Green's Kelly Titus was the only double winner, taking first in the 200 individual medley (2:05.83) and the 500 free (5:03.59).
Northview senior Laura Guinness won the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.47.
On the boys side, St. Francis finished with 592 points, with St. John's second at 390.5.
The Knights were led by junior Rowan Williams, who won both the 200 free (1:40.80) and the 100 back (51.61).
Other winners for St. Francis were Dan DiSalle in the 50 free (21.18) and Phil Barone in the 100 breast (57.13).
The only other double winner was St. John's Connor Herman, who took first in the 200 IM (1:56.81) and the 500 free (4:40.25).
Bowling Green's Jordan Breitigam won the 100 fly with a time of 51.20, while Dexter Foos of Fremont Ross took first in the 100 free at 46.31.
Only the winner in each event is guaranteed a spot in next week's state meet.
