Big block helps Genoa boys top Lake

Genoa's 6-foot-9 Richard Wonnell blocked a potential game-winning shot with five seconds left to prevent an upset loss in a 49-48 win over Lake at Whitmer.

Genoa outscored Lake 12-8 in the fourth quarter despite making six of 13 free throw attempts. Jon Lester led the Comets (14-7) with 16 points, and Wonnell and Matt Bassitt followed with 13 and 12, respectively.

Alex Cordell paced Lake (3-18) with 16 points, and Josh Tantari poured in 12.

The Spartans (12-10) advance as three players scored double figures.

Fred Morris led Start with 22 rebounds and also grabbed 12 rebounds, Anthony Henderson tossed in 18 points, and Jeff Copeland contributed 15.

Allen Gant sparked the Cougars (10-11) with 18 points while Andy Borcherdt added 13 and Denard Pinckney 10.

FINDLAY - Lima Senior (12-9) knocked down eight 3-pointers and was led by Anton Hutchins (19 points) and Tyler White (18).

Springfield was paced by Leroy Alexander's 23 points.

FINDLAY - Brock Ammons scored 28 points for the Trojans, who were 20 of 26 from the free-throw line.

C.J. Gettys added 12 points for Findlay (14-7), which led just 19-17 at halftime.

Brad Celusta paced the Generals (1-20) with 12 points.

Rogers (10-9) had four players in double figures in the sectional played at Central Catholic: Quincy Caldwell with 18, Damon Powell with 17, J.R. Rayford with 13, and Jordan Stewart with 10.

Robert Davis of Bowsher (8-12) led all scorers with 26 points. Eric Daniels had 11 for the Rebels.

Waite's Ke-Sean Harris poured in six long-range three-pointers on his way to a 29-point scoring night. Antonio Allen added 23 points for the Indians.

Brandyn Hall with 11 and Jacob Sturt with 10 led Northview (4-17).

SWANTON - Anthony Barnum scored 15 points and Steven Boyd had 12 to lead the Panthers.

Alex Nossaman scored 17 points to lead Bryan, Zach North added 13, and Matt Wisler 12 for the Golden Bears.

Clay Rolf scored 22 points and Clayton Ruch added 16 as the Eagles (15-6) soared past the Polar Bears at Clay High School.

Ray Hook netted 11 points for the Polar Bears (2-16).

Donovan McClain scored a game-high 17 points for the Bulldogs (4-15), while Jordan Holmes chipped in with 16, Austen Alabata 14, Dontonio Kynard 12, and Mike Jones 11 at Clay.

FINDLAY -- T.J. Waldock had 17 points and Mike Huettner added 14 for the Royals (13-8).

Kent Tietje had 22 for the Patriots (5-16) and Kevin Kline had 10.

At Whitmer, Ryan Smoyer knocked down the last of his six 3-pointers to break a 55-55 tie with 30 seconds left.

For Otsego, Smoyer finished with 21 points, Sam Forshey had 13, A.C. Limes 11, and Matt Weisenborn 10.

DEFIANCE -- Logan Burdue had 21 points and Phil Snow added 14 for the Tigers.

Dustin Yoder scored 22 for the Aces while Kody Burlingame had 14.

TEMPERANCE - Bedford used a big fourth quarter to knock Pioneer from atop the Southeastern Conference standings.

Jackson Lamb scored six of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, and Lee Hullibarger scored six of his 13 in the period as the Mules (9-10, 6-7) outscored Pioneer 23-13.

Tyler Shock added 13 points for Bedford.
