Wauseon girls lose to Rocky River

ONTARIO - Wauseon took a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Indian offense suddenly dried up in the second quarter as the Indians scored only one point in their Division II 57-49 girls basketball loss to Rocky River.

Rocky River took the lead with

6:08 in that second period and managed to stay in front the rest of the way despite a spirited fourth-period rally by Wauseon where the Indians outscored Rocky River 23-15.

Wauseon was 0 for 10 in the second quarter and had five shots blocked. The Indians were 3 of 20 from the field in the first half and 12 of 47 for the night.

Wauseon, however, cashed in at the free throw line, outscoring Rocky River 22-3. Alexis Baird was 6-for-6 from the line in the fourth quarter and 10-for 10 for the night.

Wauseon was able to cut the Rocky River lead to 8 points in the final period, but couldn't come closer. Wauseon out-rebounded Rocky River 33-27 with Alexis Pierce pulling down 10. Baird led Wauseon with 15 points and Pierce contributed 13.
