AW holds off Start rally; Southview wins

Grohowski, Dulay lead Generals; Ruiz paces Devils

Anthony Wayne went into halftime with a 17-0 lead and held on in the second half for the road victory on Friday.

The Generals went up by 14 in the first quarter on Zach Grohowski’s seven-yard run and Aaron Dulay’s 35-yard run. Jake Hartbarger added a 34-yard field goal in the second.

Start got on the board in the third on Tyler Ritter’s 73-yard touchdown pass to James Grays, and Anthony Wayne answered with Hunter Lonseth’s 15-yard run. The Spartans continued to rally with Chris Jones’ 10-yard TD run and Tyrell Jones’ 15-yard TD catch from Ritter, but that was all the scoring they could muster.

Dulay led AW with 134 rushing yards on 15 carries, and Grohowski added 114 yards on 23 carries.

Ritter was 8-of-20 passing for 145 yards, while Chris Jones rushed for 127 yards on seven carries.

Southview 18, Rogers 0

Allen Gant and J.Q. Bowers each scored once for the Cougars and the defense was able to force two safeties to improve to 2-0.

Gant scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter and Bowers — who led the team in rushing with 57 yards on 10 carries — scored on a 63-yard kickoff return in the fourth.

Quarterback Austin Valdez was 7-of-9 for 59 yards as the Cougars had 188 yards total.

The Rams (0-2) were led by Jordan Crayon with 42 yards on 14 carries as the team accumulated 106 total yards.

Otsego 49, Scott 0

TONTOGANY — Ryan Smoyer threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Knights cruised.

Smoyer was 8-of-14 passing for 70 yards with a pair of TD tosses to Nate Hackworth in the first quarter from 11 and 17 yards, and scored on a 4-yard run in the second. Otsego’s defense also recorded a pair of safeties in the opening quarter.

Austin Rohleder rushed for 125 yards on 18 carries, including a 4-yard TD run in the second.

Carlos Trevino and Logan Hosley each scored on 12-yard runs in the third, and Logan Hartison had a four-yard TD run in the fourth.

Otsego racked up 376 yards of total offense (306 rush, 70 pass), while holding Scott to just 70 total yards.

Danbury 50, Woodward 6

LAKESIDE — Lucas Kennedy and Cory Schenk teamed up for two touchowns and Taylon Molnar ran for two more as the Lakers routed the Polar Bears.

Schenk hauled in touchdown receptions of 47 yards and 24 yards, and Molnar scampered into the end zone for scores of one yard and five yards.

Cody German and Cooper Eller also added rushing touchdowns for Danbury, and Brandon Burke returned a fumble 76 yards for a score.

Mordecai Brownlee got Woodward on the board in the third-quarter with a 19-yard touchdown run.

Springfield 27, Bowsher 12

Kyle Ruiz rushed for two three-yard touchdowns runs to lead the Blue Devils (1-1) past the Rebels (0-2).

Ryan Stickley also recovered a fumble for a Blue Devils score.

Drew Grigsby connected with Marshawn Ellis for a 45-yard touchdown and rushed seven yards for another to account for the Rebels’ scoring burst in the second quarter to pull within 20-12 at the half.

Springfield’s Clay Fink added a six-yard touchdown run to account for the only second-half score.
