St. Francis cruises to D-I district title
Notre Dame picks up girls crown
BOWLING GREEN — St. Francis De Sales easily won the Division I district boys swimming and diving team championship on Saturday evening, scoring 601.5 points to top Findlay (317) while the Notre Dame girls (333 points) edged St. Ursula (327).
Qualifying for the state meet individually for St. Francis were Mike Minor (one-meter diving), Matt Zimmerman (200-yard and 500-yard freestyle), DJ MacDonald and Jack Barone (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Dan DiSalle (50 and 100 freestyle), Connor Trimble (100 freestyle), Christian Sobczak (100 backstroke), and the Knights’ 200 medley relay, and 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Also finishing in the top two for automatic qualifying were Findlay’s Dietrich Hinesman (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Kyle Hopkins (100 backstroke), and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays; Southview’s Tim Loret (diving); and St. John’s Jesuit’s Eric Hipp (100 butterfly), Mickey McGoldrick (500 freestyle) and 200 medley relay team.
Qualifying for the girls state meet were Notre Dame’s Rachael Dzierzak (200 IM, 100 breaststroke), the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay teams; St. Ursula’s Emmy Sehmann (200 and 500 freestyle), Zhada Fields (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Mikayla Murphy (500 freestyle), and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams; Clay’s Megan Siford (diving); Perrysburg’s Karissa Gordon (100 butterfly); Whitmer’s Kristin Filby (100 breaststroke); Fremont Ross’ Haley Fisher (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Sammi Miller (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Laura Duncan (100 butterfly), and the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay; and Findlay’s Bethany Glick (diving).
Napoleon boys first, girls second in D-II
BOWLING GREEN — Napoleon won the Division II district boys swimming and diving team championship Friday, posting 275.5 points to top runner-up Lima Shawnee (205.5). The Wildcat girls were also in the hunt for a team crown, falling one point short (300 to 299) in the standings to Sandusky Perkins.
Qualifying for the state meet individually for Napoleon’s boys were Timothy Pelltier (one-meter diving), Spencer Witt (200-yard individual medley), Justin Allison (50 freestyle), and the Wildcats’ 200 freestyle relay team.
Also receiving automatic state berths were Bowling Green’s Peter Burroughs (200 IM) and Spencer Witt (200 IM, 100 breaststroke).
Qualifying for the girls state meet were Napoleon’s Erika Vocke (100 and 200 freestyle), Jesse Sworden (200 and 500 freestyle), Makenzie Garringer (100 butterfly), and the Wildcats’ 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays teams.
Also advancing to state will be Wauseon’s Kendall Weber (diving), Lake’s Samantha TenEyck (diving), and Adriana Cannon (200 IM and 100 butterfly), and Port Clinton’s MacKenzie Stewart (200 IM and 100 breaststroke) and Cheyenne Meek (50 freestyle).
