Last year’s Division I state runner-up, Perrysburg, battled to a 3-3 tie through eight innings Thursday at Clay before the nonleague baseball game was suspended because of darkness.
That makes two suspended games for Perrysburg, which last week also had its season-opener with Lake end in a 2-2 tie.
The Yellow Jackets’ Hunter Smith blasted a two-run homer off Clay ace Jordan Grosjean in the first inning, but the host Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and took a 3-2 lead in the second. Perrysburg pinch-hitter Nick Fleming successfully executed a suicide squeeze bunt to plate pinch-runner Peter Munger with the tying run in the sixth inning.
