Note to Forbes: Crystal shines

The Crystal Bowersox concert at the Huntington Center was an amazing show by a beautiful, humble, gracious, and gifted performer (“Bowersox takes the high road with a test-drive of new songs,” March 4).

There were no shocking outfits or diva posturing. We were blessed with seeing a hard-working singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and her band. Ms. Bowersox has become a local icon and continues to gain national popularity. Through it all, she has managed to keep her Midwest charm.

Although she is from Elliston, Ohio, she has never wavered from calling Toledo her hometown. Ms. Bowersox invited Toledo Mayor Mike Bell to come on stage to be recognized. He declined her offer and a chance for grandstanding. He said he was there as a fan.

I felt the irony as I saw the show, knowing that recently Forbes magazine put Toledo at Number 11 in its 2013 ranking of America’s “20 most miserable cities.”

To Forbes, I say: You should have seen our Crystal shine.
