Questions about Treeces must be asked

It boggles my mind when readers accuse The Blade of bullying the Treece family. Blade Editor David Kushma is right on the money when he states the reasons for not supporting the Treece family’s plan to take charge of Toledo Express Airport (“Toledo’s renewal needs more than a Michigan roll,” op-ed column, Dec. 8).

The Treeces are way out of their league on this issue. What experience do they have in the aviation industry? How big are the budgets the family handles now in comparison to the airport’s budget? Perhaps they want this opportunity to enrich themselves at taxpayers’ expense.

The powers that be need to recruit an outsider who has solid experience managing a successful airport the size of Toledo Express. When they find that ideal candidate, they should not promise a huge salary until that person has proved he or she has the capabilities to turn things around.

Burris should ease off family

In response to Keith C. Burris’ Dec. 10 column, “Treece boys not ready for prime time”: Why the hateration?

It is legitimate to disagree with the Treeces. But why did Mr. Burris have to be so mean?

He should keep his emotions in check and stick to facts. That way, his commentaries will carry more weight.

Pope on right track to aid poor

Pope Francis is a breath of fresh air (“Pope issues mission statement for papacy; Francis wants Catholic Church to reach out more to needy,” Nov. 27).

If he is able to spark compassion for the working poor in today’s self-described conservatives, then he is already a saint.

After he accomplishes that, he could teach us how to stop the endless wars that few profit from, but so many suffer from.

Insurers, officials don’t care about us

President Obama thinks politicians and insurance companies care about people (“Obamacare Web site rallies, but ‘right’ customers wary,” op-ed column,” Dec. 14). How naive can he be?

I am thinking about running for political office. I don’t think that I can do any worse than our current crop of politicians.

I have another advantage: I have seven children. I’ve learned to work with 2-year olds.
