I’m pleased when reading The Blade lately, as it seems to have moved more toward the middle, not only on the editorial page, but also in what stories are covered and how they are presented. I would call that great timing, given the perceived fall from grace of what we call the mainstream media.
Not one for nuanced speaking, President Trump has accused the press of being an enemy of not only himself, but especially, of the American People. A more articulate (and cautious) President might have said that the press is almost always factual but rarely truthful when it comes to anything Mr. Trump and all things conservative.
As a former Democrat, I’ve witnessed this obvious bias for years. For all Americans who value fair play and honesty, it is more than a little repugnant. Walter Cronkite, one of America’s most revered and respected professional journalists was a liberal to the bone, but you couldn’t tell it by watching his news broadcasts.
Once in a blue moon he would let the mask slip just a little, but he was a professional journalist. Just tune into any of today’s national news programs or read a newspaper and try to find a Walter Cronkite.
Many of us don’t recognize bias, particularly when we’re being told what we want to hear, but we do recognize the viciousness and unfairness of what passes for news today.
Americans are repelled by unfairness and don’t like being told only one side of the story.
Thank you, Blade, for being more fair and balanced than the rest.

President’s decisions inexplicable
It is impossible to comprehend a person who has every luxury and necessity money can buy, who would propose a budget that, among other things, would take from the poor, sick, and vulnerable.
A budget that takes away the free school lunches for children, funding for meals on wheels for those who cannot get out to get their food because of illness, disability, etc., and a roof over the heads of those in desperate need and would end up on the street because of not funding shelters.
Obviously, President Trump and his family have not missed a meal and never spent a night in the freezing cold or killing heat. How can a human being be so hateful and inhumane?

Look to Laskey for Secor Rd. ideas
In considering plans for Secor Road, village and city officials should take a ride down Laskey Road, between Talmadge Road and Harvest Lane.
Here, there is one wide lane going east, one wide lane going west, and a wide turn lane in the center. Granted, traffic is somewhat heavier on Secor, but it should move smoothly with wider lanes and road repairs.

Run for Congress, get covered
This is in reference to your Readers’ Forum letter posted online March 28 “Paramount refusal to pay for EMS endangers lives.” For those of you who feel sorry for the woman whose health insurance won’t pay for her EMS trip to the hospital consider this:
If you’re elected to Congress for just one two or six-year term and then lose the next election please remember you will get a life-long retirement check and health benefits as long as you continue to live.
If you don’t like the way you’re being treated run for Congress and let the rest of us pay for your insurance and your retirement.
