The purpose of rumble strips is to alert drivers when they leave their driving lane or are approaching a stop sign or dangerous curve.
The strips provide drivers with both an audible warning and a physical vibration. On two-lane rural highways, rumble strips can also be placed on the centerline of the highways.
With rumble strips on the edge and center of the roadway, drivers tend to stay in the center of their lane while driving. Some studies have shown an almost 50 percent reduction in head-on crashes with centerline rumble strips.
Why doesn’t Ohio put centerline rumble strips on all our state routes? Centerline rumble strips are a proven and cost-effective safety enhancement and should be on many of Ohio’s two-lane highways.

Limit should be 35 mph in Whitehouse
We are longtime residents of Whitehouse and travel west on State Rt. 64 into town almost on a daily basis, and we feel the speed limit should be 35 mph (April 12, ‘‘Fraud as public policy”).
The short distance in question is only a half-mile, starting at the Ardagh Metal Beverage USA Inc., which has tractor trailers coming in and out. There are also a fire station, a church, a library, a park, and a recreational area used by walkers, joggers, and bicyclists as you proceed through a residential area.
We have a very competent mayor, council, and police chief who are addressing this issue.

Dr. Dao’s felonies not relevant to story
I have been closely following the coverage of the outrageous treatment of Dr. David Dao by United Airlines in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other news sources, including The Blade.
The Blade reported there is information that David Dao ‘‘was convicted more than a decade ago of felony charges involving his prescribing of drugs.”
Dr. Dao is a currently licensed physician actively treating patients.
I fail to see why this information was included in The Blade’s article. It is clearly not relevant to the incident with United.

Trump is losing, not the Democrats
I had to laugh at the April 17 letter ‘‘Democrats losing war on Trump.”
I’m not sure from which news outlet the writer is getting his information, but it surely isn’t correct nor legitimate. Once again, it’s a case of “Trump didn’t do it. They (Democrats, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton) did it,” or it’s fake news.
I understand that the supporters of President Trump are growing more and more desperate by the day, as they observe this flailing buffoon and his Keystone Cops administration collapse.
As to the headline accompanying the letter, my only response is, “Yeah, he wishes that were true.” It’s actually the other way around.
