Parents need to support kids’ activities

Parents need to support kids’ activities

Recently I went to a baseball game at Woodmore Elementary School. I noticed that there were only six parents at the game.

Parents want their kids to play sports, but they seemingly don’t want to support them. They just dump their kids and run because they have so much more to do at home.

I’m sure the kids would like for their parents to come and cheer them on. I feel sorry for the parents. Once their kids grow up, they won’t want anything to do with their parents because they didn’t take the time to do things with them when they were young.

Take good care of our current parks

I have been going to Wildwood Metropark daily since 1984 for my morning walk. It seems as though the focus of the Metroparks is expansion, while maintenance is lacking.

The road into Wildwood has been patched and repatched, yet there are still potholes. There are also potholes in the parking lot. The fixtures in the men’s restroom have been broken for months. In addition, maintenance is slow to replace something as simple as burned-out lightbulbs in the restrooms.

The trails have several low spots that flood and need repair or resurfacing, especially the Brown trail.

Will our city benefit from having more Metroparks, or will the real benefits come from the beautification, safety, and enjoyment stemming from well maintained parks that we already have?

Surprise! Money found before election

Hooray, the city of Toledo has found between $6 and $8 million that it somehow did not know about until very recently (May 31, ‘‘City anticipates $6M more ’17 revenue than expected”).

However, instead of paying back the capital fund, which has been the city’s cash cow for the last several years, officials can’t wait to spend it on new police hires and maybe even some raises.

What happens next year when all of a sudden this revenue drops or disappears? Our streets continue to be in deplorable condition. Has any member of council or the street department driven down Southlawn Drive recently?

It must be an election year.
