After reading the June 6 editorial ‘‘Review Toledo’s finances” and several letters in the Reader’s Forum about the mismanagement of my hard-earned tax dollars, all I can say is: “I want my money back!”
It is inexcusable that more than $12 million is suddenly discovered months before an election. Changes need to be made now. City Finance Director George Sarantou should be fired for incompetence. Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson should either resign, be recalled, or be soundly defeated in November.
The next mayor should immediately accept the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s offer to pay for a third-party review of the city’s finances so that this kind of mistake does not happen again.
It is time to get rid of this mayor and her whole gang of incompetents.
Our streets should have been a priority. Instead, the mayor squandered our tax money by paying back lost wages to the city workers and union members who lost increases during the recession. Taxpayers had no say in this decision.
It is time to put the taxpayers No. 1. Don’t forget to vote these amateurs out in November.
