The Trump administration must end its policy of separating families at the border between U.S. and Mexico.
There is nothing normal about detaining children. The Department of Justice should immediately halt this practice of separating families. The use of immigration detention and family separation as a deterrent runs counter to human rights.
The policy of immigrant family separation is evil made flesh. Perhaps there are other words to describe a government doing this to asylum seekers and immigrants, but evil is the most precise.
This is a stain on America. We are better than this. I expect Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) as my Congressional representative, to be better than this. He has the power to stop this. I expect him to use it.
History will judge him by this moment, and I will hold him accountable.

Toledo can’t afford updates to water facility on its own
With all the arguing over the water issues, maybe the Toledo mayor should look back at pictures from The Blade on this subject.
There are leaking and rusted pipes, outdated equipment, and blue tarps for a ceilings. This problem was kicked down the road for decades. Add the eventual pull out of outlying communities, do you think Toledo is going to be able to afford these Environmental Protection Agency-mandated fixes alone? And build a new intake in lake Erie?
Remember mayor, these communities helped pay for your shortcomings on this problem. Quit taking care of your buddies and look at the whole picture. Toledo can’t afford to shoulder this burden alone.

TARTA needs to find a new revenue source
I don’t understand why the only two options under discussion for Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority financing are property taxes and sales taxes. TARTA funding is a transportation issue, so wouldn’t it make more sense to finance TARTA with a fuel surcharge at the pump or a vehicle registration fee surcharge?
