Low blood supply prompts appeal for area donations

Bad weather and other factors have drawn down local supplies of donated blood to unusually low levels, and American Red Cross officials are seeking help.

Judy Pearson, spokesman for the Western Lake Erie Region of the Red Cross, said there is less than a one-day supply of O positive, O negative, and A positive, and all blood types are under a two-day supply.

The supply of O negative, much sought after because it can be given to any blood type, is less than half a day.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 419-539-1009. The main donor center at 3510 Executive Pkwy. in West Toledo is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and tomorrow, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.
