Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop today will announce a recycling program that will put old cell phones into the hands of senior citizens.
Mr. Konop is working with the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio and the Kroger Co. to collect cell phones and distribute them at senior centers throughout Lucas County.
The 911 Cell Phones for Seniors program will enable the county s elderly to receive a free cell phone equipped with 911 capabilities for emergencies.
It s security, peace of mind, Mr. Konop said. This program gives them security and peace of mind so seniors will feel more confident living alone.
