Goerlich site is slated to get $1M expansion

ProMedica Health System held a ceremony yesterday to announce a $1 million renovation and expansion of Goerlich Center, a residence on Flower Hospital's grounds for patients with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.

Twelve private patient rooms will be added to the facility, which opened in 1994 and has 75 people on a waiting list.

Other improvements include two more multipurpose rooms; two enclosed courtyards; and a gazebo and memory garden.

Construction of the project's first phase started in April. The second phase will start later this month and be completed early next year.

The Goerlich family of Ottawa Hills has donated $125,000 for the project. The campaign goal is $1 million; $700,000 has been raised.
