St. Luke's Hospital earns heart failure accreditation

BLADE STAFF

The Society of Chest Pain Centers has given ProMedica St. Luke's Hospital full heart failure accreditation status.

The society's goal is to help facilities manage heart failure patients more efficiently and improve patient outcomes.

About 5 million patients in the United States have heart failure. It is a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood through the heart to meet the body's needs for blood and oxygen.

"Heart failure is currently the only cardiac disease that continues to increase in both incidence and prevalence," said Donna Tennant, St. Luke's administrative director, critical care services, in a statement. "At St. Luke's Hospital, we are committed to doing our part to improve the lives of our heart failure patients."
