ProMedica and HCR ManorCare announced today the two companies are partnering to develop and build a new skilled nursing and rehabilitation center that will ultimately replace ProMedica's Lake Park facility.
The new 120-bed facility will be built on the ProMedica Flower Hospital campus in Sylvania. Officials say the center, which will focus on transitioning patients out of regular hospital rooms and back into their homes, will benefit from the collaboration between the two health care providers.
“This is really an opportunity to bring two local companies together, bring our expertise, our resources, together and really create a facility that will focus on skilled rehab care in the community, and do it in a way that is good for the community and good for the patient," said Randy Schimmoeller, senior vice president of operations for ProMedica Continuing Care Services Corp.
The center is expected to open in 2015. Officials described it as a "multimillion dollar" project, but said details weren't yet available on the center's total cost, or how the investment would be split between ProMedica and HCR ManorCare, both Toledo companies.
The collaboration also will include the creation of a quality committee made up of clinical staff from each provider.
