Post office addition put on hold in Hillsdale
HILLSDALE - Plans to expand the city's downtown post office were put on hold last week after officials were notified that all postal service improvement projects were frozen while the federal agency tries to improve its financial situation.
Postal officials told the city that the Hillsdale post office project would likely not be reviewed before September.
The plan includes tearing down the buildings on the east side of the postal property to make room for a post office addition. The post office pledged to pay the city for the property and demolition and said it will spend about $5 million for the addition.
