HILLSDALE - During their first detail to curb underage drinking, officers from the Hillsdale County sheriff's department, Hillsdale police department, and the Michigan State Police arrested three individuals and wrote five violations Friday.
Arrests were made for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, minor in possession, and furnishing alcohol to minors, while misdemeanor tickets were issued for possession of open intoxicants and for transporting an open container to two other underage individuals.
The sting was made possible through a federal grant that pays officers overtime to stake out establishments that serve or sell alcohol looking for underage drinkers. Operation Spotlight also educates officers and alcohol servers about the laws against underage drinking.
