ADRIAN - Police are warning residents to beware of scams after a couple conned an elderly woman out of $15,000 recently.
A 69-year-old Adrian woman told police that a Hispanic woman who spoke broken English approached her in an Adrian store May 28 and told her a story about a winning Ohio lottery ticket and a sick father in Mexico.
The resident agreed to meet the woman and a man in the parking lot the next morning to exchange money for the ticket. She was then asked to go to the drugstore and fill a prescription. She was unable to get the medicine, and when she returned, the couple were gone.
In addition to warning residents, Adrian police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
