Michigan House supports renaming U.S. 24 stretch

MONROE The Michigan House yesterday unanimously passed a bill renaming a portion of U.S. 24 in Monroe County as the Fallen Soldiers of Iraqi Freedom Memorial Highway, in tribute to state Rep. Herb Kehrl (D., Monroe), who died Tuesday of liver cancer.

Mr. Kehrl had introduced a bill earlier this year to rename the portion of Telegraph Road between M-125 and the Ohio line in honor of Pfc. Dennis Miller, a constituent who was killed in Iraq.

The bill was amended yesterday to honor all veterans of the war.

The Michigan Senate must act upon the bill, and the governor has to sign it.
