ANN ARBOR - Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has been granted a medical hardship waiver by the Big Ten Conference and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Wolverines, the football program announced today.
Gardner's waiver is retroactive to his freshman season at Michigan. In 2010, he played in three games and had seven carries for 21 yards and a touchdown and seven completions and 85 yards for a touchdown before sustaining a back injury.
In 13 games at quarterback and wide receiver in 2012, Gardiner had 75 of 126 completions for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns, with five interceptions, and at wide receiver caught 16 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns. Gardner also had 47 carries for 101 yards and seven touchdowns.
