Solo home run only blemish for Mud Hens in road defeat

BLADE STAFF

COLUMBUS — A Juan Diaz homer run in the bottom of the seventh inning was the only damage against Mud Hen starting pitcher Pat Misch on Saturday night, but the Toledo bats managed just two hits from one player in a 1-0 loss to the host Clippers.

The loss comes a day after the Mud Hens (5-12) got two wins at home versus the Clippers (8-8).

The contest kicked off an 11-game road trip, continuing with an afternoon tilt today at 1:05 p.m. against Columbus, followed by a 10:35 a.m. game on Monday before four-game series at Durham and Norfolk.

Despite being shutout on the evening, the Hens threatened in the top of the fifth as Jordan Lennerton walked to start the inning and John Lindsey advanced him to second with his second single of the contest, but Carlos Carrasco struck out the next three batters — Danny Dorn, Bryan Holaday, and Argenis Diaz — in succession.

Lindsey was the only Toledo batter to reach base via a hit as he had two singles and a strikeout.

Misch scattered six hits through seven innings pitched, striking out seven despite taking the loss. He allowed just two extra-base hits in the defeat.

Jess Todd pitched the eighth inning and struck out one batter while not allowing a hit.

Scott Barnes got the win on the mound for Columbus as he pitched the seventh inning in relief for Carrasco.

Preston Guilmet got his fourth save of the season for the Clippers with a spotless ninth inning.
