Mud Hens rally past Syracuse

Castellanos delivers for suddenly red-hot Toledo

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Mud Hens clubbed 16 hits and continued to roll with a 9-7 comeback win over the Syracuse Chiefs on Thursday.

Trailing 7-4, Toledo scored two runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to win its third straight and seventh out of its last eight games.

The Hens (27-41) tied the game in the seventh on a two-out RBI bunt single by Brandon Douglas, then pulled ahead with a two-run single by Nick Castellanos.

Austin Jackson touched home with one of those runs in his likely last rehab outing with the Hens. The Tigers center fielder went 2 for 5 and is expected to rejoin Detroit today at Minnesota.

Toledo starter Pat Misch was rocked for seven runs — six earned — on eight hits over five innings. But the bullpen held strong, with four Hens relievers limiting the Chiefs to one hit over the final four innings.

Closer Bruce Rondon struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 11th save and lower his ERA to 0.74. Jose Ortega got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Jackson, Douglas, Castellanos, Jordan Lennerton, Danny Dorn, Ben Guez, and Bryan Holaday all had two hits apiece to lead the Hens. Dorn hit a two-run shot in the sixth for his 13th home run.
