Pawtucket continues to find ways to topple Mud Hens

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Pawtucket scored seven runs in the first three innings and seven more in the eighth to roll to a 16-3 victory against the Mud Hens on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.

The Red Sox beat the Hens for the fourth straight game. The 16 runs were the most allowed by Toledo this season.

Pawtucket broke on top with three first-inning runs off Hens starter Shawn Hill, thanks to a run-scoring single by Alex Hassan and a two-run hit by Xander Bogaerts.

Things unraveled for Toledo in the fourth. With two outs and two runners on, Bogaerts hit a grounder to third base that the Hens’ Argenis Diaz misplayed for an error, allowing a run to score.

Jonathan Diaz turned that miscue into a painful mistake by slamming a three-run home run.

The Mud Hens scored in the fourth on a double-play groundout, but Bogaerts homered in the fifth to get the run back.

In the sixth, Ben Guez and Danny Dorn doubled for a run, but in the bottom of that frame the Red Sox got the run back off Hens reliever Blaine Hardy when Mitch Maier walked and Justin Henry doubled him home.

The Red Sox turned the game into a rout with seven runs in the eighth off reliever Justin Souza, thanks in part to an RBI double by Maier, a two-run double by Jeremy Hazelbaker, and a two-run homer by Jackie Bradley, Jr.

Toledo scored a ninth-inning run on an hit by Brandon Douglas.

Alex Avila was 1 for 4 while serving as the Hens’ catcher. Avila, who is on a rehab assignment with Toledo, grounded out, singled sharply in the fifth, then struck out in his last two at-bats. Diaz singled in four at-bats and now has a 15-game hit streak, the second-longest for a Mud Hen this season.
