Hens fall in 10 innings

INDIANAPOLIS — The Mud Hens rallied to tie Indianapolis in the top of the ninth inning but then lost 2-1 in extra innings.

Toledo trailed the Indians 1-0 going into its final at-bat, but Mike Cervenak singled to knot it up. Kevin Russo, who walked to start the rally, scored on Cervenak's RBI single.

But Indianapolis got two hits off of Hens reliever Jon Link (0-4) in the 10th inning. Robert Andino singled in the game-winning run as Darren Ford, who had doubled, scored.

Toledo managed to get just four hits off of four Indianapolis pitchers. Starter Graham Godfrey pitched six scoreless innings. Vic Black (2-2) got the win despite giving up the only run.

Mud Hens starter Blaine Hardy gave up four hits and one earned run over 5 2/3 innings. Reliever Luke Putkonen was sharp, yielding just one hit while striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.

First baseman Jordan Lennerton had Toledo's only extra base hit with a double. Cervenak went 2 for 4.

Second baseman Omar Infante, who is on an injury rehabilitation assignment from Detroit, went 1 for 3.

Toledo right fielder Danny Dorn was ejected from the game in the ninth inning after arguing a called third strike.

Russ Canzler, the Indians' designated hitter, had a solo home run to give Indianapolis a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning.

The teams play again tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. in Indianapolis.

The Mud Hens are back at Fifth Third Field on Saturday to start a 10-game homestand. Toledo hosts the Indians at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
